For smooth concrete surfaces with barely visible spiral markings
The architects developed their design for the radical reconstruction of Freiburg University Library based on the building structure that was created in the 1970s. The existing grid of vertical exposed concrete columns was brought up-to-date by being transformed into individually positioned slanted columns, giving the building a large interior space.
Almost 500 reinforced concrete columns, which were produced with RAPIDOBAT® shuttering tubes, were created. The quality of the seamless exposed concrete surfaces surpassed all expectations. Furthermore, the formwork, which was factory-made to each required angle, could be sorted according to the construction process, thus minimising logistical complexity.
